Veterinary ultrasonic harmonic scalpel system. A 55.5 kHz titanium blade cuts, coagulates, grasps and dissects with a single instrument and seals vessels up to 3 mm in diameter. ITP tissue-sensing adjusts blade amplitude automatically; the separable HP054 transducer pairs with independently replaceable HAR-series shears for low running cost and minimal lateral thermal spread.

SKU: IWA-SG12 Category:

Product Overview

The IWA-SG12 is an ultrasonic harmonic scalpel system built for soft-tissue surgery in canine, feline and other small-animal practice. The generator drives a titanium blade at an ultrasonic frequency of 55.5 kHz, converting electrical energy into mechanical motion so that tissue is cut and coagulated simultaneously — without electrical current passing through the patient.

Because the blade works at far lower temperatures than electrosurgery, the IWA-SG12 produces only minimal mist, no surgical smoke, and very little lateral thermal spread — protecting structures adjacent to the surgical plane. A single instrument cuts, coagulates, grasps and dissects, reducing instrument changes and shortening operating time.

Key Features

  • 55.5 kHz ultrasonic titanium blade — simultaneous cutting and coagulation in one pass
  • Seals vessels up to 3 mm in diameter — covers a wide range of general soft-tissue procedures
  • One instrument, four functions — cut, coagulate, grasp and dissect, reducing instrument exchanges
  • ITP (Intelligent Tissue Perception) — senses the coagulation/cutting state and adjusts blade amplitude automatically for better sealing and faster cutting
  • Minimal lateral thermal damage — protects surrounding tissue and reduces eschar formation and complications
  • No electrical current through tissue — electrical energy is converted to mechanical motion at the blade
  • Minimal mist, no smoke — keeps the surgical field clear for precise dissection
  • Separable transducer and shears — the HP054 transducer has a long service life; HAR shears are replaced independently to lower running cost
  • Three interchangeable shears — HAR36 (standard), HAR23 and HAR9F (optional) for different procedures
  • HAR36 working blade — convex face for broad-area coagulation, working face for grasp/cut/coagulate, concave face for dissection, blunt tip for blunt dissection and spot coagulation, sharp edge for cutting
  • Ergonomic pistol-grip handpiece with 360° rotation wheel, MIN/MAX hand switch and finger trigger — reduces hand fatigue
  • HP054 transducer — high-performance piezoelectric ceramic delivering stable amplitude output
  • Universal 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz mains input — IPX8-rated foot switch

Clinical Applications

  • Soft-tissue dissection and haemostasis in canine and feline general surgery
  • Ovariohysterectomy and other spay/neuter procedures requiring fast, reliable vessel sealing
  • Mass and tumour removal where minimal lateral thermal spread protects adjacent tissue
  • Procedures in vascular-rich tissue planes that benefit from simultaneous cut-and-seal
  • Cases where a smoke-free, clear surgical field supports precise dissection

Setup & Workflow Notes

  • Connect the HP054 transducer to the HAR-series shears, plug the handpiece into the generator and pair the IPX8 foot switch.
  • Select the procedure power level on the front panel; the MIN/MAX hand switch and foot switch both control activation.
  • ITP automatically modulates blade amplitude during activation — no manual re-tuning between cut and coagulation.
  • The transducer is reusable with a long service life; HAR shears are replaced independently as the wearing component.
  • Universal 100–240 V input suits global clinic mains without a step-down transformer.

Why Choose IWA-SG12

  • Faster surgery: one instrument cuts, coagulates, grasps and dissects, and ITP auto-adjusts amplitude — fewer instrument changes and shorter operating time.
  • Safer for tissue: low-temperature ultrasonic action with minimal lateral thermal spread, no electrical current through the patient, and reduced eschar and complications.
  • Lower running cost: the long-life HP054 transducer is separate from the consumable HAR shears, so only the worn blade is replaced.
  • Clear field: minimal mist and no surgical smoke keep the operative view open for precise dissection.

Warranty & Support

Manufacturer warranty period [TBC]. Training, maintenance and servicing are provided through the local distributor. Iwamed supports installation, operator training and spare-parts logistics (transducers and shears).

Frequently Asked Questions

How is an ultrasonic harmonic scalpel different from electrosurgery?
The IWA-SG12 converts electrical energy into mechanical motion at a titanium blade vibrating at 55.5 kHz. Tissue protein is denatured to form a coagulum at far lower temperatures than electrosurgery, so there is minimal lateral thermal spread and no electrical current passing through the patient.
What size vessels can it seal?
The IWA-SG12 seals vessels up to 3 mm in diameter, covering a wide range of general soft-tissue procedures.
Which shears are included, and can they be changed?
The system ships with the HAR36 curved titanium shears as standard. HAR23 and HAR9F shears are available as options. The HP054 transducer is reusable; the HAR shears are the replaceable wearing component.
Does it produce surgical smoke?
No. Operation produces only minimal mist and no smoke, keeping the surgical field clear.
What is ITP?
ITP (Intelligent Tissue Perception) automatically senses the tissue cutting/coagulation state and adjusts blade amplitude in real time, improving seal quality and cutting speed.
